As of the 2010 census Patagonia had a populace of 913. Patagonia was formerly a supply center for close-by mines and ranches.
Patagonia is positioned at 31 32 30 N 110 45 12 W. The town is positioned in the valley of Sonoita Creek between the Santa Rita Mountains to the north and the Patagonia Mountains to the south.
The old quarrying camps (now ghost towns) of Harshaw, Duquesne and Lochiel lie to the southeast along the easterly margin of the Patagonia Mountains.
Patagonia Lake State Park around Patagonia Lake lies about six miles southwest of the town. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km2), all land.
